The Concept Fire Truck (CFT), which was presented at Rosenbauer’s 150th anniversary in September 2016, is increasingly attracting the interest of firefighters and the general public. This causes astonishment, curiosity in some and always enthusiasm. Developing the study of future concepts for fire fighting vehicles took several years and was a daunting task. The CFT is completely powered by electric power and consists of an onboard extender that facilitates continuous operation of the pump.
With the Concept Fire Truck (CFT), a perfect working tool was developed aiming at the future services of the firemen, offering more security, greater functionality and better ergonomic conditions.
When firefighters respond to a call, they need high-speed capable transportation, rapid acceleration, strong braking, and maneuverability. The driver should concentrate, strong and experienced nerves. The Concept Fire Truck (CFT) is a state-of-the-art showcase. Its special architecture, paired with suspension and hydro pneumatic chassis, allows a new level of steering performance and safety. Each engine is powered by an electric motor with peak output of 180 kW (240 hp) and 425 Nm of torque from one stop, giving the CFT plenty of power. Although it weighs up to 18 tones, it corresponds to the acceleration of the PANTHER 8 × 8 and has a top speed of 110 km / h. Rosenbauer engineers have managed to reduce the center of gravity of the CFT by more than 20 centimeters compared to conventional. They also managed to achieve the nearly 50/50 distribution. The ideal configuration for an independent shift was determined in dynamic steering modules, with ideal diagonal steering, rolling stability and steering stability, maintenance of all common standards.
With these specifications, the concept truck works as a large sport utility vehicle and less like a conventional commercial vehicle. This gives the driver the ability to reach the destination not only quickly but also with significantly greater safety, especially on winding roads where strong braking is required.
The CFT made a trip to two European cities particularly committed to the fight against climate change: Oslo and Amsterdam. The ambitious goals of these two countries by 2025 will be to replace fossil fuel vehicles with electric vehicles. This also applies to commercial vehicles, that is, also fire departments! Therefore, it is no wonder that Norwegian and Dutch firefighters are expressing much interest in the concept fire-fighting vehicle of the future, the Concept Fire Truck (CFT).
Since some Brazilian cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador and Curitiba participate in C4O, a group of big cities worldwide, committed to discussing and combating climate change, we are sure that the CFT is a great step to begin to help the world in the fight against climate change.
Current social and technological changes such as climate change, urbanization, demographic changes and digitization will also affect the organization and technology of the Brazilian Fire Brigade. The Concept Fire Truck (CFT) gives initial answers to the questions of the future. In addition to the numerous innovations, the conceptual study is characterized, in particular, by its innovative vehicle architecture, which could only be realized through the use of electric drives. These carry excellent ergonomics, increased functionality and safety, high load volumes with compact dimensions, as well as driving performance and unique agility.
